At-Home First Aid Essential Oil Kit

At-Home First Aid Essential Oil Kit

Oven-burnt fingers are quite a common occurrence in our kitchen. So are mozzie bites in the summer, and flakey skin in the winter. Although some would say an over-the-counter remedy is a no-brainer, we much prefer going for the plants.

Why? Well, because of the power and beauty in their simplicity. No nasties and no need to tweak. For us, nature is strong and good enough as it is - it can do a lot more than we think.

When it comes to feeling good and healthy, treating our body with natural ingredients and remedies is a wonderful gift from nature we're lucky to have. Packed with antiseptic, antibacterial and disinfectant properties, having an essential oils first aid kit at hand is a great way to heal the body organically without harsh chemicals or toxic materials.

For treating minor cuts and wounds, bug bites, headaches and cold symptoms, discover the must-have essential oils in your first aid kit.

Caution: We do not recommend using pure essential oils directly on the skin, as it can cause irritation and burns. In every use, make sure to blend only a few drops with a carrier oil like jojoba oil, camellia oil or coconut oil.

Lavender

Using lavender essential oil inside your first aid kit is a no-brainer. It’s one of the most versatile and well-rounded essential oils you can have to treat pretty much whatever gets in the way...headaches, disinfect small cuts and relieve itchiness and soothe irritation from sunburns and bug bites.

Tea Tree

Tea Tree is one of the best essential oils for infections and small cuts. With one of the highest antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, it’s perfect to have it within reach for any kind of scrapes or instances of irritated skin. Using Tea Tree essential oil for acne is popular as well, check out our blog to know more about its best uses.

Peppermint

Look no further than Peppermint essential oil for stomach aches and nausea. Create a quick and effective belly oil by blending a few drops of peppermint with a carrier oil to relieve any discomfort and improve digestion. Peppermint essential oil for muscle aches, migraines, sore throats and blocked noses works great as well. For relieving cold symptoms in particular, peppermint is a great essential oil to blend with plenty of others in diffusers or body oils. Read more about it in our blog about essential oils for colds.

Frankincense

For skin issues like infections, severe dryness and eczema, Frankincense essential oil is incredibly reliable. It’s most likely you’ll want to use it topically on the skin, so make sure you choose a highly hydrating carrier to complement its benefits - jojoba oil, camellia and apricot kernel oil are the safest bet.

Clove

Toothache can get pretty bad, and can hit quite unexpectedly. But the anesthetic properties of Clove essential oil make it the perfect natural remedy to soothe the pain. There are several ways to use Clove oil for toothache, but our favourite is to dip a cotton swab into a drop of Clove and swirl into a carrier oil like jojoba or coconut oil. Then, press or swipe the cotton swab on the area that is causing pain, and allow the oil to sit for 10 minutes until you start feeling an effect.

One of the greatest benefits of using essential oils as a natural remedy is that besides helping heal a specific area, they contribute in restoring a sense of wellbeing and groundedness for the whole person - including the spirit, mood and emotions.
